Shropshire Hills – Shropshire’s Beauty

Back in September here at Folly View Let we blogged about Sheer Folly from Wood’s Brewery that we have included in our Welcome Pack for guests.

Now that Sheer Folly is no longer available we are including another beer from our closest local brewery, Wood’s Brewery at Wistanstow, a beer called Shropshire Hills Beauty.

On the back label Wood’s provide some useful tasting notes for this 4.2% abv beer:

Shropshire Hills Beauty pours with a pleasing, mild amber colour and a well-rounded, malty flavour. This wonderful mouthful is backed by a pleasantly bitter aftertaste, achieved through a fusion of fruity hops.

There is also some helpful information explaining the rationale behind the beer:

The Wood Brewery sits on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and we first brewed Beauty in 2012 to mark 30 years of the AONB.

We’re really lucky to live and work in this part of Britain with Folly View Let situated just a few miles from the southern edge of the special place that is the  Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You can use Folly View Let as a base to explore the region and the wealth of natural attractions that it offers including:

The Long Mynd

The Stiperstones

Titterstone Clee Hill

all of which lie within the Shropshire Hills AONB.

Our Act of Sheer Folly

Here at Folly View Let we like to provide you with a Welcome Pack containing some local food and produce including some locally brewed beer.

Wood's Sheer Folly

Wood’s Sheer Folly

Earlier this year we included a very special beer produced by our nearest brewery – Wood’s Brewery – at Wistanstow, called Sheer Folly.

Our holiday let is called Folly View Let because of the view of Flounders’ Folly which is located 4 km away as the crow flies.

Wood’s Brewery in common with many other breweries produce special beers and one-off brews like Sheer Folly from time to time, and often in support of a good cause.

Another beer from them that we have included in our Welcome Pack is called Beautiful Shropshire Hills – reflecting the fact that we are surrounded by the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Some proceeds from the sales of Sheer Folly were donated by Wood’s Brewery to the Flounders’ Folly Trust.

The photograph below shows Wood’s Brewery Managing Director Mr Edward Wood presenting a cheque for £500 to Flounders’ Folly Trustee Mr Richard Cundall.

Mr Cundall said:

“It was very thoughtful of the brewery to choose us as for a donation 10 years after we completed the folly restoration. Wood’s are a tremendous local business and Sheer Folly itself was an excellent beer. Visitor donations remain vitally important to help us keep the folly in good condition, but this is a tremendous boost to the fund.”
